ENJOY HAMBURG AT ITS BEST SIDES
Choosing our words carefully, we have to say that the location of the Hotel du Nord is perfect for sightseeing and shopping, for gourmets, for visitors to the Elbphilharmonie, for aesthetes and art lovers, for businessmen, drivers, joggers and people using public transport. In short, for everyone.
The hotel lies in Hamburg's Uhlenhorst district – idyllically set amidst mature trees and parkland, but still close to all the places that make Hamburg attractive, such as the city centre and trendy St. Georg with the Lange Reihe. What's more, Uhlenhorst is at the centre of the city, geographically speaking, and is one of Hamburg people's favourite residential areas.
Wherever you turn your steps, you'll find something to delight! Less than 5 minutes's walk away is the Außenalster lake, an oasis for strollers, joggers, yachtsmen and people who just want to sit by the water and enjoy the view with a glass of wine or an "Alsterwasser" (beer plus lemonade).
Eldorado for gourmets
A couple of hundred yards towards Winterhude lies the street Mühlenkamp, an eldorado für gourmets, lovers of Art Nouveau and anyone who likes hunting down unusual treasures. There are all manner of fine little shops here behind magnificent white, turn-of-the-century façades, where you'll find fashion, furniture, original gifts or cosmetics.
And when you take a break from your shopping spree, there's a huge choice of cafés and ice-cream parlours, snack bars and restaurants from low budget to gourmet – many looking on to the water.
People coming by car can park safely in our underground garage. For everyone else (and for drivers who prefer to avoid the traffic jams), the no. 6 bus stops right outside the hotel, and will take you directly to the city centre for shopping, sightseeing or business meetings. Another destination served by the bus is the HafenCity with the Elbphilharmonie and several "in" restaurants.
Do you like walking?
It's only 20 minutes on foot from the hotel to the city centre – a lovely walk along the lake. And for the return journey you can just board the no. 6 bus in town, which deposits you in front of the hotel. Perfect in bad weather, or if your feet hurt!
